This week, the US Transportation Department officially ended its Cash for Clunkers program. And after 4 weeks and nearly 700,000 cars sold, we’re celebrating automobiles - old and new. We’re praising our old wheels for nostalgia’s sake, and our new ones for the environment (and our sanity’s) sake.
In honor of this new wave of fuel-efficient automobiles on the road in America, we revisit some of the pioneers of New Wave music, who also happen to be appropriately named, The Cars. One of their biggest hits came with their self-titled debut album in 1978, and it certainly gels with the vibe we’re getting this week. Just watch lead singer and beanpole Rick Ocasek in his shade donning, Ushanka-like hair 1984 glory below. Channel that stoic confidence in your new car, and like The Cars, let the “Good Times Roll.”
