Anyone interested in architecture and the building products industry knows that Architectural Record is highly regarded as one of the go-to publications for design ideas and trends, top products and awe-inspiring projects. AR’s blog The First Word tracks the most current designs in architecture and brings them to you in the form of dictionary entries. To generate content for the Dictionary of New Architecture, blog contributors “take an early look at new projects and—in a single word—explain what about each design caught (their) eye.”

The First Word has great appeal both visually and conceptually, which is why we linked to it a few weeks ago. Plus, the blog gives you insight into what some of the industry’s most respected and experienced editors deem creative and cutting-edge in architecture. They catalog the projects by choosing one word to capture why each design caught their attention. For instance, AR recently created an entry for oneiric to characterize a London-based project officially named “The Cloud.” The literal meaning of oneiric - of, relating to, or suggestive of dreams - describes the otherwise abstract appeal of the imaginative design.
The First Word is one of four AR blogs, all of which are worth checking out.
